Walked down Northern Blvd on Thursday and many corners are still occupied by massive frozen #sneckdowns!!
12 days after the storm snows stopped. All the crying cranks out there: “but we NEED that space so traffic flows”
Ummm, no we don’t. Build roads safer at corners.

Today I'm in the New Yorker(!) talking about #sneckdowns & snow! This paragraph might be the most bad-ass (and true) thing ever written about me! 😀

To all the silly cranks & ignorant electeds who claim that #sneckdowns are evidence of nothing...check out this MASSIVE truck easily and carefully make this turn 4 days after 🌨️❄️ stopped. We could easily put 5-foot curb extensions/#daylighting to make this street safer.

Snow is nature's urban planner: It can show us what parts of the road drivers don't use — and what can be reclaimed for pedestrians.
Post photos and videos of all the #sneckdowns you see and tag us and @NYCMayor so today's winter wonderland can inspire better streets all year!
This time is actually the best time to document. Why? Drivers are back on the roads. It’s also been a heavy snowfall. The #sneckdowns are SOLID. Some completely frozen. And with temps for the next week not getting past freezing they are here for a while.
Go document!!
There are fairly large #sneckdowns all around NYC Hall!
I recorded a short @Streetfilms I hope to get up later! @StreetsblogNYC @OpenPlans #Urbanism
Remember: it’s essentially 3 days after snow has stopped. You can find snowy sidewalk extensions 3, 5, 10+ ft from the curb!

#sneckdowns!!!!

One of those cool days when a very influential urbanist shares an old article about #sneckdowns on LinkedIn and then in one more 21 people want to make a connection with me! I wonder what a photo of me standing next to a flower pot will do?

🥶 Winter is coming.
But so are #Sneckdowns🌨️!
Mother Nature's way to gently reveal the absurd waste of public space we tend to take for granted. She kindly shows us how we can do much better!🙏

Each and every fresh snow reveals how much we’ve over-designed our streets and roads for cars, making them faster and more dangerous, and how much space we could reclaim for people and public life.

Going thru old photos I found and here in 2006 I was already obsessed with #sneckdowns.
I'm sure I have some even older. But these are really good showing where you could pour the concrete in this intersection - which was a few days after a snowfall.

This 👇🏻. Every city needs to look at its designs in this way. #Sneckdowns

Some excellent #sneckdowns on 14th and Shelby.
The snow shows us where we could extend the curbs to, making it safer for everyone.

#sneckdowns! I wrote about this method of imaging alternative urban environments based on traces in autographic design
Every winter, Mother Nature ❄️ reveals how much we over-designed our streets for cars. If we look carefully, she also inspires us to create healthier and more equitable streets for all!
