I think our #AmericanPublic lost interest in #Moscow at the end of the #ColdWarEra (officially December 25, 1991) and accepted the idea of having defeated #Communism without concern for what would follow. President Reagan had got it right when he had suggested resisting the "aggressive impulses of an evil empire." What he didn't know was the Soviet spheres of control and influence would turn heavily toward brigandage involving bribery and PMCs (Wagner foremost) wherever #TheWest would prove weak in defending its foreign interests and relationships. At home (in the #USA at least), both the #AmericanFarLeft and #AmericanFarRight have been disinformed or manipulated differently in relation to #RussianActiveMeasures / #RussianDestabilizationAndInfluenceOperations. I think old FBI (many have been displaced or bureaucratically damped by Donald) knew as much or would not have caught #MariaButina as a foreign agent, the business of #AmericanCounterintelligence having worked to the side (out of sight) in relation to the national experience.
As regards #TheMiddleEastConflict / #MEC, modern #Israelis and #Palestinians would do well to note Moscow's continuing but perhaps murky presence in sustaining one of the world's most hideous frozen conflicts by keeping the Palestinian community disinformed, intellectually weaponized, and politically repressed (with intimidation and violence a part of the mix necessary to forestall normalization along modern lines in regional economic behavior and governance).
