The Space Agriculture community is awesome and a lot of work has been done. I always love to hang out with the #SpaceAg people at space conferences.
Plants will be grown hydroponically under artificial light for a LONG time before we get to transparent surface domes growing plants under the Martian sun.
There is a ton of infrastructure to build such as laying out huge solar arrays, water processing, atmospheric CO2, chemical storage, excavating, regolith mining, smelting, paving, landing pads, propellant systems, large buildings, pressurized volume construction. We are settling this place permanently!
