Latest #SpringOnHold developments; an average first UK 20C of the year looks set for tomorrow. This follows a mild February, mild March, record breakingly mild Feb+Mar, a new Jan abs tmax record and of course a mild winter.
20C likely in eastern parts of England tomorrow. This is right around average for the first 20C of the year in the UK which is April 5th for 1991-2020.
It is a bit earlier than older avgs of April 9th (1981-2010) and April 12th (1961-1990).
February / March combined was the mildest on record for the CET with records back to the 1700s.

March 2024 ended with a CET of 8.1C which makes it the 10th mildest on record since 1659.
February / March 2024 combined were the mildest on record beating 1779.
It's the second mildest January-March on record behind only 1990.
The madness of warm air aloft continues on ECM at 132h with 20C 850 hPa temperatures making it into NW France near Abbeville and 19C 850 hPa temperatures making it to Calais. If it were summer, you would be expecting 35C from these kinds of temperatures aloft!

Provisionally equal 8th warmest March on record dating back to 1659!

For context 8.2C would make it the equal 8th warmest March on record since 1659!
March 2012 was only 0.2C warmer but the nights make the difference.
March 2012 had a mean min of 3.8C, March 2024 4.8C.. a whole degree above
