I was at the eviction of the #HousingAndDignityVillage, screaming at police officers and public workers that they were disgracing humanity. Anyone who was there with us knows that the City’s “humane evictions” are pure fiction - lip service from Libby Schaaf. #StopEMP

I was there with The Village and the EOC when the City evicted clean and sober women and children from the homes they built on public land. They were only offered homeless shelter stays. That option did not make them better off. #oakmtg #StopEMP

The #StopEMP coalition is made of housed/unhoused/formerly unhoused members ranging from lawyers and educators to long standing community organizers. There is zero confusion about where we stand on this inhumane policy and why.

There were times during #oakmtg Daryel Dunston claimed members of the #StopEMP coalition were not opposed to the policy itself but it’s implementation. Let us be very clear: we are 100% opposed this policy in its entirety and the classist and racist sentiment it is guided by.

5) When Homeless Admin made the issue personal, Council shld have asked City Administrator if the Homeless Admin actually has the power to make good on his promises. Will he be able to deliver stable & dignified housing for every unhoused person City evicts? #oakmtg #StopEMP

4) Conducted a real racial equity impact analysis BEFORE passing the policy instead of waiting to study the harm that occurs. Even Jerry Brown's Planning Dir was willing to do this on the Wood St Project. #oakmtg #StopEMP

3) Waited a week for the new Homeless Commission to have their first meeting and rely on their expertise. Isn't that the whole purpose of the Commission? It's what voters wanted w/ Measures W & Q. City shldn't tax the public w/o following thru on commitments. #oakmtg #StopEMP

2) Used last night as a listening session on a draft policy and incorporate feedback into a redesign--this was the first and only Council meeting on the written policy. This is how good government is supposed to work. I know b/c I've executed it. #oakmtg #StopEMP

Not even housed pp/businesses concerned about encampments in their neighborhood will be served. The Oakland experiment has been a proven failure--evict unhoused, make them worse off, then they or others return to same spot. Repeat. #oakmtg #StopEMP

3. City only needs to offer a shelter bed before evicting w/o regard that shelters don't work per lived experience and Urban Institute evaluation study. 4. Some Councilpp offered some policy tweaks but tweaking fundamental injustice doesn't result in justice. #oakmtg #StopEMP

What did Oak Council pass? 1. They made practices that the UN said violate int'l human rights and leading legal services said violate the constitution a citywide policy. 2. City Admin can evict unhoused pp w/o providing better housing as Council policy. #oakmtg #StopEMP

The #StopEMP legislation is direct, hands-on fascism. Since approx 70% of the homeless people in Oakland are black, it is ethnic cleansing as makeshift homes (after being displaced by the same people from permanent ones) are literally ripped apart heading into winter.
