Pakhshan Azizi, a social worker & humanitarian volunteer, spent years helping children & women affected by the ISIS war in Rojava camps under the supervision of the Syrian Red Crescent & Shams Rehabilitation Organization. Confident that she had no involvement in any military or security activities against the Iranian regime, she returned to Iran in 2023. In August 2023, Pakhshan was unexpectedly arrested in Tehran. She spent months in solitary confinement, where she was subjected to torture aimed at forcing a false confession. Despite the lack of any evidence or reference to armed activities, the Tehran Revolutionary Court, led by Judge Iman Afshari, sentenced her to death on charges of "armed rebellion" (Baghi). The court ruling also claimed that after the state murder of Jina Mahsa Amini, Pakhshan met with families of protest victims & encouraged them to continue seeking justice. The allegations, however, remain vague & unsupported by any specific evidence. Her case is a clear example of the Islamic Republic’s retaliation against the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement, which advocates for human dignity & women’s rights. The regime is using harsh sentences, including the death penalty, to suppress activists like #PakhshanAzizi & #VrishehMoradi, in a desperate attempt to silence voices of dissent. #StopExexutionInIran
