🚨 MPs last year urged ministers to lock down climate promises made by Drax. But Govt ignored the advice and now Drax has walked away from its carbon capture plans. We spent billions on a bridge that doesn’t land. And now we’re taxing the people who grow our healthy food sustainably.

Since 2012, Drax has received £6–8 billion in public subsidies as a bridge away from coal toward a cleaner system. But that bridge was never properly secured. Carbon capture was never guaranteed, the end point was never locked in, and now Drax is stepping back from its climate plans, yet the subsidies continue. At the same time, farmers are being taxed to raise c £500 million over a decade. This will force many farms into selling up and global corporations will buy up more of Britain. So we’ve spent billions on a system without a guaranteed outcome, while squeezing the sector that actually feeds the country and looks after the countryside.
