Stories like this one are why we have to review #Streaming in all subject areas. Your niece was #StreamedToFail, but she met them with #BlackExcellence and #BlackGirlMagic. It shouldn't be this way. Black Ss must be supported, not forced into #SurvivalMode!

@MsTiaDuke The practice of having Black Ss #StreamedToFail means having the least experienced Ts teaching these courses with the least supporting resources & least access to experiential learning. This leaves Ss with learning that is not relevant, authentic or meaningful.

Being #StreamedToFail is but one of the ways in which the abuse of Black Ss &the denial of their rights to equitable outcomes is perpetrated "The level at which a child is streamed either expands or contracts a child’s opportunity for post-secondary education and skilled trades".
Racial stereotypes held by teachers play a significant role in the streaming of Black Ss. For decades Black communities have complained that their children are inappropriately streamed&, as a result, are deprived of the opportunity to realize their full potentials #StreamedToFail
Peel Review, 2020 "Streaming has been a long-standing concern in Black communities. As confirmed by one author, “Black youth continue to be disproportionately streamed into lower education tracks as a result of both individual prejudice and systemic factor". #StreamedToFail

Last year my niece, a black kid with an avg of 88%, was told by her guidance counselor, not to apply to university but to go to college instead.
This year, my nephew was told the same thing.
