Great meeting on #strictprotection definition at the EU Committee of the Regions. Many voices emerging in favor of maintaining the emphasis on non-intervention management and on ecological processes. This is the missing component of past EU biodiversity policies.
Attending EU event on #StrictProtection in context of #EUBiodiversity Strategy.
Good examples from EU MS on ongoing work, definitions, passive/active intervention, link to restoration, OECMs...
10% target so important for #climate adaptation🌿, yet implementation is slow!
Fighting for #strictprotection. On my way to Brussels to a EU meeting on the definition of strict protection. All I can think is of home, #PNPG, and what this means for places like this.
The results are in!
Many 🇪🇺 member states are NOT on track to meet marine #biodiversity #30x30 targets! ⚠️
These 7 countries are lagging on #MPAs and #StrictProtection at a time when nature needs protecting most. We need 🇩🇪🇩🇰🇪🇸🇮🇪🇳🇱🇵🇹🇸🇪 & @EU_Commission to do more for marine life
"The work is easy, we just have six years to save the ocean" 😁💦
A bit of humor (or not) at the marine biogeographical seminar in Dublin. #30x30 #Natura2000 #MPA #strictprotection #restoreocean
NEWS: Oceana and @SeasAtRisk are releasing a factsheet urging Spain 🇪🇸 to create 50 marine sanctuaries to safeguard ecosystems and move towards #strictprotection of at least 10% of its waters by 2030

And another one for the evidence pile:
Stopping fishing in *some* areas actually works.

#MPAs positive effect on #fish persists across steep #climatic gradients.
#Protection from fishing remains an important management tool even with future high-water #temperatures.

It is key to:
1) learn from the experiences of those actually sharing landscapes w/ #bears
2) use #beastlytales as a two pronged approach: centering bear lives + amplyfing marginal voices & vernacular ecologies
3) move from #strictprotection ➡️celebration #conviviality 5/5
Rozloha prísne chránených území v SR k júnu 2022. Ľudia majú k dispozícii celú krajinu, ostatné živé organizmy, ktorých máme u nás asi 40 tisíc druhov, žijú (až na výnimky) slobodne len v tých fliačikoch. Je to v poriadku?

New #MPAGuide to evaluate #MPA effectiveness.
Full & high protection have 'greatest likelihood of achieving biodiverse and healthy ecosystems.'

#EUBiodiveristy vote🗳️: ❌reject all AMs & split votes!
Last week, we attended the @UN_FAO_GFCM coordinating meeting about building a new strategy for #Mediterranean, #BlackSea #fisheries & #aquaculture, we highlighted the importance of #networkofMPAs with #strictprotection and #involvement of #SSF in the #management. #2Seas1Vision
EP adopted INI report on #EUforeststrategy. For the sake of forests, I hope that @EU_Commission @TimmermansEU
@VSinkevicius
will recognize how tendentious and erroneous this report really is. Good Strategy needs both, #SFM and #strictprotection.
The new proposed #Biodiversity2030 #designations #SAC #SPA #StrictProtection also severely damage farmers & rural communities, existing designations proven 92% ineffective in IRE. Example below of a constrained business https://t.co/RQcFXByssI
👩 We want CAP reform to work for farmers & the planet, but we’re up against the @EPP & its friends in agribusiness.
😡 Their proposals are bad news for rural communities, animals & #ClimateAction.
🤫 They’re keeping that part quiet, so we thought we’d offer them a free ad.
@FAO And ultimately, so many 'common' folk know this and agree but too often action follows power and money. So where are governments and large corporate businesses in this call to arms?

11yrs after Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 failed on Highly Protected #Marine Areas for England #HPMA another review comes along arguing the necessity of #strictprotection & #wholesiteapproach but only 5 pilot sites. What about Highly Protected #Terrestrial Areas for England?
Any strategy for #biodiversity that omits #strictprotection of #primary and #oldgrowth forest, simply will not work. Letting forest grow, fixing climate and biodiversity, is not an ideological misconception.
@RewildingIre #Voluntaryreinstatement of #wolves west in continental Europe & requirement for #strictprotection in #HabitatsDirective has had that #transformative effect in accommodating #coexistence with #largecarnivores. UK & Ire has #IslandMentality - both need this https://t.co/njFcZnwebY
@whittledaway @lennyantonelli @outdoorspodcast @tommysoutdoors Wolf dispersal & settlement circumvents confrontation with humans thru spatial & temporal avoidance strategies - see below.
