Supertags in @tana_inc are rigged. Tags are usually 'Semantic Types'... but not in Tana. 🔖 Tana's SUPERtags are Software programs. Yes → Software ← It can store data fields, perform actions, access ChatGPT. All of this with: Supertags. Let's understand how they work. ↓ But let's first get help from... Software Engineering. (I'm not kidding y'all, this is all connected, you better believe me by the end of this post.) Supertags are equivalent to Classes in OOP (Object-oriented programming). Classes represent blueprints to create objects (this is why it’s called object-oriented). More on this later... Classes provide: 1. places to store information (fields) 2. implementations of behaviors (commands) Similarly, supertags are a blueprint of 'objects' with Fields and Commands: 1. Fields store information 2. Commands execute actions The diagram below shows a breakdown of an example 'highlight' supertag. Notice how it has Fields to store information, and Commands to execute actions. Here, it’s important to note that Tana has AI Fields, which act as both a Field AND a Command. Now, let's go for an example. The Supertag is a blueprint, but it comes to life when the supertag materializes into an... OBJECT. An Object is an instance of a Class, a component that performs certain actions, and interacts with other parts of your workspace. If you add a Supertag to a node, you create an object. And as we've seen, objects belong to a Semantic Type. Let's explore this. ↓↓↓ A Semantic Type is a concept used to categorize and define the nature of entities, relationships, and information within a graph. This is central to the study of Knowledge Graphs. (Quick P.S. Tana is a Knowledge Graph) Semantic Types allow you to create (and access) collections of these objects... . And to represent relationships between them. It's as simple as filling in the information for each field, look at the image below. ↓↓↓ All of these other objects (Leonardo da Vinci, Philosophy, Sacred Geometry, etc.) now have a Semantic Connection to this highlight. . And you can even run AI Commands! Send prompts to ChatGPT, and store the results back inside of the object, as you can see, in the Fields... . "And why is this useful?" – you ask By defining Semantic Types, knowledge graphs can represent complex systems of information in a structured manner, making it easier to manage, explore, and leverage the data contained within. Let me break this down. Semantic Types are super powerful to: • Structure data in a very organized way • Retrieve and discover information easily • Connect related information across a graph • Query the graph with precision and flexibility Notice that these benefits apply both for humans AND machines. Machines (AI) can add TONS of value into this rich data structure. Best of all, in an ORGANIZED way, with clear labels, clear relationships. This is why I love Tana's mission: • Reinvent how humans, teams and computers work together. This mission is represented IN THEIR DATA STRUCTURE, bro. Data structures don't lie. When you see it, you can't unsee it. This is just the beginning of the story of how Tana introduced 'Object-Oriented Knowledge Management'. @tana_inc @RoamResearch @logseq I'm loving the #supertags and live search. I've created a bunch of tags, maybe too many, but it's so easy to create a list with tags, I find myself creating them all the time and making a live search that surfaces that tag. I worry how many tags I might have in a year!
