It’s a weird field of work. So much cognitive dissonance going on. People who believe they are genuinely better and more stable than others. Lots of armchair diagnosis and underhand tactics. A fucktonne of racism, misogyny, classism, and homophobia. Obsession with solid answers to some of life’s most perplexing questions. Hatred of critical thinking. Hierarchies and power moves everywhere. Bullying is rife.
It’s a mess tbh.
Systemic trauma is the elephant in the room.

PART 2: #Trauma does not only unfold on individual levels. It is also culturally rooted, historically tied, and socially constructed. Recognizing this fact means that #TraumaInformedCare must be #CulturallyResponsive. Here are resources that inspire our work on #SystemicTrauma.
Possible unpopular opinion but homelessness and drug usage are a symptom of the problem. They are not the problem itself. Focus on the solutions to fix the underlying problem and watch people heal.

Thank you @DrMcFillin_PsyD for SEEING the #institutionalbetrayal & #trauma that is experienced by those of us that have had life long #systemictrauma caused by the current #mentalhealth system.
It pains me to say this given I am a clinical psychologist. Yet I firmly believe the greatest predictor of a lifelong struggle w/ mental illness- other than untreated PTSD- is entering into the mental health system as currently constructed.

Today I received an email advertising a workshop titled:
'Working with Uncooperative and Hostile Parents'
This immediately made me feel both uncooperative and hostile.
I have walked out of a doctor's office (psychiatry and medical) triggered and crying.
It is the responsibility of helping professionals to recognize the reality of #systemictrauma & #institutionalbetrayal experienced by anyone that has been in the system.

#Trauma cannot be treated with medication. In fact, it numbs the emotions needed to process and heal. Often, we have been prescribed the wrong meds for incorrect diagnoses & spend a lifetime in the MH system never healing. #prescribedharm #systemictrauma #institutionalbetrayal
Nearly a 1/4 of our population was prescribed a psych-drug last year. Yet the majority weren't suffering from biologically discernible 'mental illnesses' but from understandable human reactions to serious socio/psycho problems - issues the drugs are powerless to treat.
