@eveimanz @BUWheelock Oooh! I see Erin and Henry - Erin is an RA on an equity in ESL/ENL teacher qualifications project (Leider and Colombo) and Henry is a TA for my #TL508 course(Methods in ESL) - how cool to have them in class!
Hey, @AleBabino, some students brought this article to my #BI535 class last week and this week some students are discussing it in my #TL508 class. Thanks for your work!

We are unpacking privilege, identity, and bilingualism in #TL508 this week. Check out the text set in the thread. How have you experienced and/or obseved privilege and identity in bilingualism? 1/
Watching the introduction videos in @BUWheelock's online section of #TL508 and I'm super duper excited to work with this cohort!

As summer starts to wind down I'm taking note of the #SummerReading I did in June and July. Here's a pic of some of my favorites and I'll be adding some of these into #BI535 & #TL508.

Shamed for speaking Spanish.
Shamed for not speaking Spanish.
Shamed for speaking “imperfectly.”
Shamed for not being taught.
Shamed for having an accent.
Shamed by your own, by others.
Shamed for trying.
You don’t have to prove your Latinidad to anybody. We exist. Punto.
Today we kicked off #TL508! I'm really looking forward to engaging with everyone this semester and working with @meganschantz, @ElleThompson93, and Nick David as the course facilitators!
@BrilhanteAnthro @megandfigueroa Yes. A good mainstrean article that addresses this is this 2014 piece in @wapo by @valeriestrauss
(Fun fact: We're actually reading this in my #TL508 class this week.)

Summer session 2 starts at @BUWheelock next week! I'll be teaching two courses on teaching mulitingual learners. Follow along and engage with us at #TL525 and #TL508!
@BriannaSeiler1 I haven't seen this lately. My response would be to sit down with the student one-on-one to revise their work. This could help show that Google Translate is not good with skills like transition words, and I could fill in gaps of academic language needed for the assignment. #TL508
@Kelsey_jorden I find the most effective ELL scaffold to be intentional seating. I adapt my curriculum, but my ELLs benefit most when they can learn Tier 2 & 3 words from classmates as they navigate through course materials in groups with peer students. They excel with bilingual partners #TL508
Are you running into problems with students writing responses in their first language and using a translator to translate the whole response into English? How do you combat this?
