Was anyone else expecting Josh Green to get his revenge on Captain McBane for killing his father? I had a feeling that McBane’s death would come, but I was completely shocked when Josh died at the same time! These two characters are most definitely doubles in this novel. #TMOT35

#tmot35 This entire book Josh has been characterized as a violent man. He wants to murder Mcbane and often gets into fights with white men. However, during the riot, he doesn't attack without being provoked. His morals seem better to that of the many white men in this town

This is a picture from the real Wilmington race riot, taken in front of a black newspaper office that was burned down. Anywhere from 60-300 blacks were killed. 2,000 whites participated, but not a single one was charged with a crime despite their identities being known. #TMOT35

I think this has got to be one of my favorite passages in the novel because I find the use of popular sayings and the idea that because McBane has lived so corruptly his whole life that he wouldn’t change now so interesting and true. #TMOT35
