@ToddShriver @librarycongress This is great. Love the templates so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Thanks for the link! Great guide for students, too. #TNCSSExploreTheSource

A2: Time will forever be a variable we cannot change! Start year modeling, do analysis together. Be consistent using primary sources & eventually the process will become more natural to Ss. Just takes time upfront- payoff worth it! #TNCSSExploreTheSource
#TNCSSExploreTheSource A2 Check out the @librarycongress site for teachers. There is a primary source analysis section that has been created to assist teachers. We use the oral history template with our speakers. Great resource!

A1: One can never go wrong with https://t.co/JxwhC47CBg to dissect primary sources for littles or secondary students

Whooopeee it’s time for Q3! #TNCSSExploreTheSource

With that said, of course, some topics, like slavery or the Holocaust, are best to not gamify. Important to have those conversations & view those primary sources together with guidance & empathy. #TNCSSExploreTheSource
A1: Another strategy to make analyzing primary sources fun is to create (or use one of the many pre-made) @breakoutEDU games. Primary doc serves as “clue” that Ss need to read (or view or listen to) carefully to get a code that will help them win the game. #TNCSSExploreTheSource
#TNCSSExploreTheSource A1 Since 2013, we have brought in speakers to discuss history. Started in our 1980s class & has expanded to all our SS classes at North White (Indiana). Ss get to ask questions & engage in the lesson. Can’t get that in a textbook. Here are some of speakers

A1: Another strategy modified from @JamesAkenson semantic differentials -> Gather multiple docs about event & have Ss categorize by topic (i.e. author for/against; bias, gender issues) Change up category & repeat. Gets Ss re-reading same doc several times. #TNCSSExploreTheSource
A1: Strategy from MTSU Teaching w/ Primary Sources -> Place photos around room & have students travel to discuss & complete a graphic organizer (Observe, Explain, Infer, Wonder)🔍Graphic organizer from John DePasquale at @Scholastic https://t.co/njiVHM3tXS #TNCSSExploreTheSource
Dropping into the #TNCSSExploreTheSource chat tonight! Emily-former World History & Geography/current Tech Coach so I like to stay involved in all subjects-this one is tough! Watched an interesting Apollo 11 documentary last week with family so I’ll say the walk on the moon 🌔
And...Here is Q1! #TNCSSExploreTheSource

Sounds like a great Twitter chat happening tonight about using primary sources in social studies classes! #TNCSSExploreTheSource
