The #IndiaOut campaign, driven by #TeamRohit and linked to President Dr. @@MMuizzu, contributed to a 37% decline in Indian tourist arrivals, dropping from 209,198 in 2023 to 130,805 in 2024. According to a Diplomat report, this caused a $150 million loss by August 2024, with potential full-year losses for 2024 estimated at $1–2 billion. Indian tourists, making up ~11% of arrivals, contribute ~$380 million to the Maldives’ tourism sector, which accounts for 28% of GDP. A further 7.9% drop occurred in Q1 2025.
The #IndiaOut campaign’s cumulative economic impact is projected to surpass $1.5 BILLION by October 2025. This campaign by #TeamRohit, allegedly used as a political tool to support Dr. @MMuizzu’s rise to power, has inflicted significant damage on the nation’s MULTI BILLION DOLLAR WORTH tourism industry. THIS IS THE BITTER MR. @Midhuamsaud. Going forward, I believe that we should never allow such divisive campaign happen in our soil as a nation.
