Great to be back at #TexWorld in NYC. Just few of the things that stuck with me:
1. Dusty, textural pastels are trending in fashion. For interiors, vintage opulence with saturated colors is making a comeback.
2. Sustainability remains as strong as ever, but isn’t material enough to upset the offshoring apple cart. There simply aren’t enough consumers that are willing to pay up.
3. Chinese apparel producers continue to be coaxed by N.A. buyers to diversify their footprint, even if it’s through contracted facilities. Vietnam, by some distance, remains the top dog for these moves, with Africa (Kenya, Egypt, and Morocco) being increasingly used for standard knits. For Chinese producers looking beyond Vietnam, Cambodia is also often favored since lead times in Bangladesh are now often stretched. Nearly all of the 10+ Chinese producers I met agreed that India remains among the least likely destinations for Chinese producers that are looking to expand/shift their footprint. India simply isn’t ’policy ready’ to work with the Chinese.
4. Met some Taiwanese shops that are doing active research on incorporating AI into their processes, but garment manufacturing remains years away from getting anywhere close to even half automated.
5. If announced tariffs stick, expect Central Americans to gain. Near-shoring isn’t going away.
