Seconded. Agreed.
It is time to slash off slush funds from the Kenya Budget.
#TimeIsRIPE
Kenyans are being asked to pay more taxes through the Finance Bill 2026, yet the 2026/27 Budget hides KSh 101.37 billion under a vague item called “Other Operating Expenses.” No programme. No purpose. No accountability.
Before taxing Kenyans another shilling, Parliament must clean up the budget. We cannot finance opacity with taxpayers’ sweat.

Happy Fathers Day to all the men who are present and presiding in the lives of their children, mentees and protegees.
Was happy to be recognised as one of the Fathers of the Bar at LSK Nairobi Branch Gentleman's Chambers event this past Friday.

Sad. The everyday violations of the rule of law. Sadder still because it's ordinary typical hassle, that it's just everyday commentary of rights violation and a security system that's not working.

Honoured to join @AmnestyKenya as ED on 2 June 2026, taking the mantle from Irũngũ Houghton to advance justice, dignity & civic rights for all.
National Council on Administration of Justice (NCAJ) is a great opportunity for legal justice sector actors to collaborate on key aspects relating to administration of justice.
#TimeIsRIPE
Today, the Attorney General Hon. Dorcas Oduor, EGH, attended a meeting of the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) at Safari Park Hotel, presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The high-level engagement convened leaders and key stakeholders from across the justice sector to deliberate on priority issues affecting the administration of justice and the delivery of justice services in the country. Among those in attendance were , PS @CorrectionalKE Services Dr. Salome Biacco, Hon. @CarrenAgengo, the PS for Children Affairs, the @LawSocietyofKe President, Mr. @ckanjama alongside senior officials drawn from various justice sector institutions.
The meeting underscored the importance of sustained inter-agency collaboration, institutional coordination, and collective action in addressing emerging challenges within the justice sector. Discussions focused on strengthening partnerships among institutions, promoting access to justice, enhancing accountability, and advancing reforms aimed at improving efficiency and responsiveness in service delivery.
The NCAJ continues to serve as a critical platform for fostering cooperation among justice sector actors in the pursuit of a more effective, accessible, and people-centred justice system.

The future of the profession will be shaped not only by advocacy in Court, but by service, leadership and the willingness of lawyers to strengthen the institutions that sustain justice.

Well done @KenyasOmbudsman and the Respondents. The right of access to information has tremendous currently-untapped potential to secure good governance.

Kenya’s Court of Appeal has dismissed the Attorney General’s appeal in the SGR contracts disclosure case, upholding the finding that the State’s refusal to release documents on the project’s financing, procurement, construction & management was unlawful:
— The ruling effectively means the government must release the SGR contracts and related documents unless a further appeal or stay order is obtained from the Supreme Court.
— The Court held that state secrecy, confidentiality clauses, and broad national security claims cannot override Article 35 access-to-information rights without specific evidence of real, substantial, and justifiable harm.

It is high time all @ealawsociety leadership works to address the threat to independence of the UG Bar occasioned by the prolonged exile of ULS President @IsaacSsemakadde from Uganda.
#BangTheTable #TimeIsRIPE
Comrades, today I represented President @IsaacSsemakadde at the enrollment of 112 Advocates at the @JudiciaryUG High Court, Kampala. So much was said about the injustices of the day and the critical mandate that comes with the Advocate's Gown at the Bar @ug_lawsociety. I left them with words of Mordecai from the book of Esther 4:14;
"If you remain silent at this time, ... you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this"

It was a pleasure engaging other Bar leaders of East Africa Law Society. The promise of a common approach to rule of law, independence of the Bar and regional integration will be pursued with greater strength.
#TimeIsRIPE
The Council of the East Africa Law Society led by the president of the society, Mr. Ramadhan Abubakar was convened yesterday in Zanzibar for its Council Meeting, bringing together leadership from across the region to deliberate on the policy direction of the Society and to lay the groundwork for the 31st EALS Annual Conference and General Meeting.
The meeting provided a critical platform for Council members to align on key priorities, review the Society's strategic direction, and strengthen the institutional framework that guides legal practice and advocacy across East Africa.
As EALS continues to champion the rule of law, regional integration, and the interests of legal professionals across the EAC, meetings such as this reaffirm the Society's commitment to purposeful leadership and collective action.
The work continues.

Three attributes expected of Senior Counsel:
a. Beacon of professional excellence.
b. Commitment to mentorship.
c. Dedicated service to the profession.
We look forward to a stronger SC Bar.

A call for "judicial courage, constitutional fidelity and transformative justice." Meaning, above all, fairness according to the law.
#TimeIsRIPE
" The Kenyan Constitution is transformative. It only requires transformative judges for it to flourish and endure. Be that judge.” - Hon. Justice Chacha Mwita.
A powerful charge to the newly appointed High Court Judges on the enduring duty of judicial courage, constitutional fidelity, and transformative justice. 🔥⚖️

Honestly, I focused more on the students, the few teachers and the buildings. After all, I spent about 8 years schooling there. Great experiences!

Kenya is crazy, I’m even starting to freak out.
Imagine getting the chance for a once-in-a-lifetime selfie and, instead of taking it with Emmanuel Macron, you choose Eliud Kipchoge instead.
Congrats to Justice Warsame. Serve with distinction, judge fairly and well.
#TimeIsRIPE
Today at State House Nairobi, I had the honour of witnessing a significant moment in the continued strengthening of Kenya’s justice system.
I warmly congratulate Justice Mohammed Abdullahi Warsame upon his swearing-in as the 14th Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya. Justice Warsame brings to the apex court distinguished judicial experience, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to constitutionalism and the rule of law. I am confident that his service will further enrich the Court’s pursuit of justice for all Kenyans.
I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to Evans Thiga Gaturu and Jedidah Wakonyo Waruhiu on the conferment of Senior Counsel status,an honour reserved for advocates whose careers reflect excellence, leadership, and distinguished service to the legal profession.
As we celebrate these milestones, I reaffirm our collective duty to safeguard judicial independence, uphold the Constitution, and strengthen public confidence in the administration of justice.
May this new chapter inspire even greater service to our Republic and to the enduring ideals of justice, fairness, and democracy.

It is clear the legislated fees under the Public Procurement Act were designed to hinder access to the procurement review process and thus violated access to justice. We are well rid of the said provisions.
#TimeIsRIPE
Court declares key provisions of Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act unconstitutional, rules mandatory fee deposit bars access to justice, issues injunction halting gov’t enforcement.

This is quite welcome, since it will contribute to judicial accountability.

CJ Martha Koome: The Judicial Service Commission has resolved that, effective 1st July 2026, the Judiciary shall commence the publication of individual performance data for judges and judicial officers. We shall do this in a structured and transparent framework that safeguards judicial independence and institutional integrity.
Congrats Justice Warsame on your Nomination by JSC as Judge of the Supreme Court. Do serve with fairness, compassion and distinction.

The LSK Council was happy to meet DPP Renson Ingonga and his team.
With about 900 qualified advocates, the Office of DPP is the largest employer of lawyers in Kenya. In the next few months, they project to cross the psychological threshold of 1,000 advocates.

Decisional independence is the freedom to reason, not the freedom to abandon reason. Great quote, nice insights...
#TimeIsRIPE
In today's Standard newspaper, I argue that;
1. Once a judge has all the facts, all the issues, and the applicable law, there is only one legitimate direction; forward, through reason, to a conclusion that those inputs can honestly support. A judge who arrives somewhere else must explain how he got there, and the record must be capable of providing that explanation.
2. Decisional independence doesn't mean applying the law mechanically. It means applying the correct legal reasoning for the correct output.
3. Decisional independence is the freedom to reason. It is not the freedom to abandon reason.
4. Appeal corrects the error for the litigant but does nothing to hold the judge accountable for producing the wrong decision in the first place.
