#Songda & #Trases are no longer easily discernible over the Yellow Sea due to strong shear. In the longer range, watch for tropical development in the South China Sea this weekend/early next week. Possible impacts on S #China, #Hainan Island or N #Vietnam next week.

UPDATE: After deeper investigation, I have determined that #TRASES (Ex-#ESTER) has become a tropical storm at July 31 18:00 UTC and remained as such through August 1 00:00 UTC. It peaked with winds up to 45 mph (75 kph) and a pressure as low as 994 mb.

TS #Trases (formerly TD #EsterPH) has made landfall in #Jeju Island (#제주도), South Korea this Monday morning local time. It is the first tropical cyclone to have directly passed the island province since TS #Khanun in July 2012.

TS #Trases has become significantly better organised. Both ASCAT and IR imagery show the circulation is tight and circular, with a large overcast displaced to the south. Even Dvorak yields at least 2.0 using the shear pattern. JTWC should have upgraded this storm.
