If you've ever observed a #Gulmohar flower closely, you'll know that one petal is odd colored & larger - whitish yellow with red streaks, while the others are all red or orange.
Ever wondered why? This is to serve as an attractant to specific pollinators and birds.
Also, with ultraviolet vision of many pollinators, they see what we can't, with the red streaks on the 'odd petal' , possibly appearing as vibrant purple designs to attract them!

In powerful thunderstorm systems, we often get a feature called a Gust Front. This is different from your regular frontal boundaries (caused by different airmass temperatures) that cause clouding and rain.
A #GustFront is the leading edge of the powerful downdraft from the TS system, which causes squally winds ahead of an approaching TS. It is this front that can pick up dust, causing dust storms that can travel long distances.
Very rarely, they can whip up so much dust that they're visible in satellite imagery as a ring of dust spreading out from the thunderstorm system. A very good example is the dust storm we saw in MMR on Friday!

The #Monsoon doesn't only affect #Bharat & SSE Asia!
While June - October is classed as the #SWmonsoon season for us, when the winds begin reversing in late October, the monsoon system heads towards the southern hemisphere.
Once the winds cross the Equator, they reverse and then blow as the #NWmonsoon for Australia and the Indonesian archipelago between November - March.
Thus the monsoon is active for most of the year, in each hemisphere, and still manages to bring us a whole boatload of rainfall ๐ฒ
Now that is true power ๐ช๐ซก

Everyone knows that a #Coconut tree is born when you plant a dried coconut from the kirana shop. But did you know where the actual embryonic seed is located?
There are 3 'eyes' on every coconut which we see as the black dots arranged on top. Of these 3, only 1 actually contains the embryo. This eye can be identified with its bigger size and softer cap when pressed.
If you break open the coconut and extract the khopra very carefully, you will see the actual embryonic seed embedded within the khopra right beneath the embryonic eye as shown below!
Yes, this tiny cork like structure is the humble beginnings of huge coconut trees you see around you ๐ด
So the next time you see a coconut tree, remember it's tiny origins and humbly accept Nature's engineering ๐ค

The #Coconut Panicle is another miracle of Nature's engineering!
Each new pod that opens consists of 30-40 rachillae (lateral branches) that each hold 200-300 male flowers. These are the spikes you see in the pic below.
At the base of these rachillae, they usually contain one enclosed female flower which are the white circular structures that look like baby coconuts.
Upon successfull pollination, these females flowers swell up to form the coconuts. If you've ever noticed the brown dot in between the 3 humps on the base of the coconut, that's the point of the stigma that received the pollen.

A #Mango Panicle has anywhere between 1000-3000 individual flowers when it blooms (Pic 1)
Of these, ONLY 0.5-1.5% (15-20 flowers) initially set fruit (Pic 2)!
Of that ~1%, ONLY 1 OR 2 mangoes make it per Panicle, that eventually makes its way to you (Pic 3)! ๐คฏ

Differences between common #WinterPrecipitation & Condensation forms in India -
1) Dew is when saturated air temperature falls below dew point, causing moisture to condense into water droplets onto surfaces.
2) Frost is formed when the air temperature drops close to or below 0ยฐC and moisture molecules cling as tiny ice crystals onto surfaces.
3) All precipitation from clouds starts out as Snow. As the snowflakes fall thru the warmer air they melt into rain. However, if the freezing layer is low enough (especially during WDs for us in India) this snow doesn't melt completely before reaching the ground, resulting in wet snowfall.
4) Hail is formed when turbulent rising air carries rain drops upwards thru CB clouds beyond the freezing height covering them to ice pieces. These ice crystals then begin to melt as they fall down, getting coated with more water before being pushed upward again thru rising updrafts. This process continues, causing the hailstone to grow in size rapidly until it's too heavy to be held by the rising air, falling to the ground as hail.
