Love to have been at #ukcsj22.
A bit of context and a thought:
Preprints have been around in some areas of science for quite a while, for example in physics. They are relatively new in *biology*. It’s worth contrasting the different areas and their experiences.
Fascinating insights from @anjahuja and @JeremyFarrar about the writing of their new book Spike: The Virus Vs the People at @absw UK Conference of Science Journalism #ukcsj22 - the rise of pre-print publishing and implications for science journalism a big theme today #SciComm

Pleased that everyone had such a good time at #ukcsj22 yesterday. We'll share a few tweets from the end of the day just to give a bit more of the flavour....
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great chat with @JeremyFarrar @emahase_ , lively audience - and our book sold out! Thank you for having us 🙏🏽 @absw #ukcsj22
Great to see @anjahuja and @JeremyFarrar signing their newly @royalsociety Book Prize nominated book Spike The Virus vs the People, brilliant was to end #ukcsj22, what a great day.

I'm very grateful to @andyextance and the @absw team for putting together such a ✨wonderful✨ event today at @TheCrick. It was great to re-encounter so many good friends and meet new science writing buddies 🥰 See you soon, hopefully! 🎉 #ukcsj22

Reading SPIKE on the way home from #UKCSJ22 and my god it’s as good as everyone says. Better.
Completely gripping. Well done @anjahuja and @JeremyFarrar !
Let’s hope we don’t need a sequel…

Earlier, after discussion of ‘Spike’ with co-author @anjahuja with brill questioning from @emahase_, @JeremyFarrar closed the #UKCSJ22 with the line: “science is great…but it ain’t enough.” | 1/2

Reading this in Euston train station to the sound of someone playing the piano is a fitting ending to the #ukcsj22. A great experience and a quite a bit to think about on the way home.

Many congratulations to winner @Williamrt and runner up @Jem_Collins for surviving the dragons' den at the @absw #ukcsj22 - and well done to the rest of the excellent shortlist, RPGeeks and @Impactably!
Just arrived at @TheCrick to channel my inner (somewhat dusty) hack at today's @absw UK Conference of Science Journalists for a special Dragons' Den with @Aisling_Irwin Connie St Louis and Kirsty Styles, chaired by @obrientweet! https://t.co/OMpS0IN9BZ

Great session today with @anjahuja and @JeremyFarrar on their book Spike: at the @absw UK Conference of Science Journalism #ukcsj22
COVID19 is 'not going away', China likely epicentre of a new strain, and we still don't know long term impact of infection, says @JeremyFarrar

We are very happy to announce the shortlist for the Royal Society Science Book Prize 2022, sponsored by @InsightInvestIM, celebrating the best in popular science writing from around the globe. Find out more about the six titles: #SciBooks https://t.co/r5rs5wFfiL

Science policy, science journalism, science education – you need to maintain these strategies beyond just the crisis periods, says @JeremyFarrar. The structures to advice decision-makers and the general public must prevail. #ukcsj22
Fascinating discussion between @anjahuja and @JeremyFarrar on their process of writing their book: weekly hour-plus Zoom interviews felt like being on the psychologist's couch for Farrar, and Ahuja pushed him to be more open than he might otherwise have been #ukcsj22
