Yesterday 110 years ago, September 28, 1912, many of my relatives in Co. Monaghan, Ireland signed the #UlsterCovenant & Declaration. This included my great uncles James & George Arnold in Ballybay and my great aunt Sarah McConnell in Monaghan Town whose signature is below.

It was amazing to discover, only in my mid 20s, that three of my great-grandfathers signed the #UlsterCovenant.
At a time when the Decade of Centenaries was well underway, it was fascinating to know and see my connection to this period.
It was also very rooting. #UlsterDay
Today was very special.
Discovered that my relatives from Bushmills signed the Ulster Covenant.
Thanks to @NevinT.

@Iamjacqui76 @hiberniaroots Ironically, I have relatives on my Maternal line who signed the #UlsterCovenant in 1912…..we are all products of having #mixed heritages in Ireland, though many do not know it & others do not wish to believe that.
A year later, Robert and his wife Alice signed the #UlsterCovenant and Declaration respectively. Look at the house numbers. 71 and 72. This is an error, perhaps careless or indicating a very recent move. 4/

@brianjohnspencr I can relate.
Seeing that my Great-grandfather had signed,was a memorable moment also..
A sense of belonging..

My great-grandfather who signed the #UlsterCovenant did so in the presence of the famous Robert Quigg of Bushmills who went on to win the Victoria Cross for bravery during WWI.
John Blair is the third signature after Robert Quigg. #UlsterDay
John Blair (gave me my middle name) signed the #UlsterCovenant 109 years ago
Finding this out was special and came after years of hearing slogans like “Brits Out” and “give us back our land”
It shows how rooted people of unionist tradition are to this land #UlsterDay
