Yesterday former @MyANC Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters was forced to pay @UniteBehind after losing her court case against her suspension from @ParliamentofRSA in 2024. She was suspended because #UniteBehind launched a complaint based on the findings of the State Capture Commission chaired by former Chief Justice Zondo.
In 2025, after many attempts to receive payment from Peters, #UniteBehind obtained a writ of execution.
The amount R192 781.07 is small compared to her crimes.
Working-class people have endured pain and the violation of their fundamental rights because of state capture at PRASA. The economy and the environment also took serious knocks as people shifted from trains to taxis and cars.
State capture remains a blight in South Africa. The destruction of state capacity including governance at state-owned enterprises along with the impunity of politicians, police, prosecutors, businesses, board members, politically connected business cadres, management and senior employees continues.
If there was ever any doubt that #UniteBehind would allow the main culprits in the destructionof PRASA to get away scot-free for their crimes, this case should end such speculation.
Not because it is a major victory but because we will pursue every avenue to hold the criminals and their enablers accountable. We will shame them even though the criminal justice system fails all of us.
