The #VijayanagaraPolice have arrested a man for groping a woman at a hotel in #RPCLayout in #Bengaluru. The accused told the police that he touched the woman inappropriately after one of his friends challenged him to do so. A case was registered based on a complaint of a woman cashier who was a witness to the incident.
The arrested man has been identified as #Chandan, a resident of #HampiNagar in Bengaluru. He worked as a gas delivery boy.
On December 30, at around 7:30 pm, Chandan and two of his friends had come to a hotel in RPC Layout for snacks. After they finished their food they were spending some time at the hotel. Meanwhile, a woman customer was seen at the hotel cash counter.
The accused Chandan is seen approaching the woman and touching her from behind. Two of his friends even whistled after Chandan touched her. When the woman objected to the act, and started an argument, the people in the hotel started gathering and he fled the spot. The incident was caught on the CCTV footage installed at the hotel.
After consulting the hotel owner, the woman cashier, who was a witness to the incident filed a complaint at #Vijayanagara Police Station. Based on the complaint an FIR was lodged under the IPC sections 354 (criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage her) and 509 (sexual harassment).
Based on the CCTV footage, the police were searching for the accused and managed to nab him on Wednesday. During the interrogation, Chandan revealed that he was challenged by one of his friends to touch the woman and he accepted it and committed the crime.
