It was an absolute pleasure to meet and spend time with all of our @WadersForReal attendees at #W4RConf, listening to inspiring talks and chatting about experiences, knowledge gaps and future possibilities for breeding waders and working conservation...
Such a great conference. Well done to all the organisers of #W4RConf Wonβt be long to the #LaserFence conference too. @uklaserman @CovenasRafael @Volterra_ecosys @BirdControlG
The @LIFEprogramme Laser Fence project is trialling if deterrent lasers can be used to discourage farm pests. This approach is used effectively on birds in some situations but the jury is out on whether this application works for deterring mammals #W4RConf

Thoroughly enjoyable couple of days at the @WadersForReal conference listening to some really interesting talks, like this one from @drredshank about @projectgodwit's excellent work #W4RConf
Jen Smart @drredshank giving us an update on @projectgodwit. Tracks seem to be key to fox movements on one of their sites. Experimental trials of exclusion fencing show improvements in wader nest survival #W4RConf

@WadersForReal @LIFEprogramme @_SamanthaFranks @LizzieGrayshon @Gameandwildlife @drredshank @WWTconservation @GrahamFAppleton @NaturalEngland Huge congratulations to the team. The Martin Down Super Cluster covers an area of 236sqkm, this farmer-led bottom up project part funded by AES Facilitation Fund is leading to fantastic joined up farmland conservation work at a landscape-scale #W4RConf

#W4RConf We were out for an excursion to our hot spot sites this morning. Some very insightful discussion on what works for habitats, predators, farming and waders drawing on decades of combined experiences! Wonderful.

Sorry not to be at #W4RConf.
Hope someone is spying out #WaderTales opportunities for me.

How has electric exclusion fencing worked over our project? A story of success and problems. With our approach, vegetation management is crucial for fences to be effective. More insights to come after the wader numbers are crunched. #W4RConf

Now after lunch and lots of discussion, Mike Short, our predator ecologist is giving us an introduction to the fascinating results of his red fox GPS tracking. Where do they go? What is important? How do they interact with breeding waders? More updates to come #W4RConf

@Ewing_birds finds high breeding densities of Curlew inside MOD fenced areas but poor productivity! Hopefully, conservation management and advice will improve this going forward! Early stages but promising for another declining wader #W4RConf

We're now hearing about the success for waders on another privately managed site @ElmleyNNR. A great story of taking an approach of "farming your waders" #W4RConf

Intros done, next up @LizzieGrayshon our lead wetland ecologist, talking about our wader monitoring and habitat work. What we've achieved, where we struggled and what more we can do! #W4RConf

Kicking off our end of project conference this morning! Lots of organisations and backgrounds spending two days talking about wader conservation! Thanks @LIFEprogramme for funding our project! #W4RConf

Also talking at #W4RConf tomorrow will be Micheal Stinston, ecologist for @LoughErneWaders. This wildfowler driven project has achieved fantastic result including a 480% increase in Snipe territories! It will be great to hear what has made their project so successful!

Looking forward to the conference on Wednesday. Will be great to hear about the project, fellow wader scientists and meeting new people from a range of backgrounds. Thanks for the invite! #W4RConf
Our project conference starts this Wednesday, covering 5 years of working for waders in the Avon Valley! Looking forward to some really good discussion with waderologists, farmers, gamekeepers and site managers on what works, what doesn't and what we still do not know...
