Yet other publicly available estimates reported:
▪️ 18,600 — Society of Family Planning’s #WeCount Project (reported by the Santa Fe New Mexican)
▪️ Up to 18,130 — Guttmacher Institute’s Monthly Abortion Provision Study
Different methodologies have produced different estimates—but that’s exactly the problem.
Without universal, mandatory state abortion reporting, New Mexicans are left comparing competing estimates instead of relying on one transparent public reporting system.

According to the most recent comprehensive data from the Society of Family Planning’s #WeCount report, there were approximately 1,140,000 abortions in the United States in 2024. This figure includes clinician-provided abortions (both in-person and telehealth), with telehealth accounting for an increasing share (reaching 1 in 4 by the end of the year).
The monthly average was about 95,000 abortions.
