Kripke the man himself flying down to direct the iconic episode. Not!Sam π₯°
And those broad shoulders in the background π«
Next up in our #Supernatural rewatch, one of the most innovative and powerful episodes of Season 2, #WIAWSNB. @JensenAckles @jarpad @SamSmithTweets and director @therealKripke just pulled at my heartstrings (in the best way!) β€οΈhttps://t.co/dFBxneEFSb
Lovely evening of old con panel rewatch and then episode rewatch of #WIAWSNB and then I come back to my timeline and it is absolute insanity and I'm laughing so hard I can't breathe. Love my Show and love this fandom β€οΈπ€£
As reality and the wish universe begin to get closer together we have fun little moments like this... The episode started with the camera panning up from the bottom of the car. As we head back to the warehouse, the camera pans DOWN instead. Skynyrd is playing again.

The filming of this moment ratchets up the tension beautifully. Your lead actor, clearly unnerved, walking DIRECTLY towards the camera... while his Stepford family hangs out in the background. It's disturbing.

.@CLennertz making the choice to use the world's saddest, loneliest bassoon for Dean finally seeing his mom again. To pair that composition with Ackles' acting here is unfair.
Someone toss me into Lake Austin already. I'm a mess. ππ

In the time before Door Dash (and before djinn had VFX tats), please think fondly of actor MacKenzie Gray going grocery shopping after being asked to wear semi-permanent tattoo designs for the whole week so they could save time.
Commitment to the craft.

Usually, we have dark silhouettes edging into the periphery, shadows that lean into the horror elements. This time we have the reverse - a guy with extremely pale skin catching the light against a darker background. Even creepier.

First scene = "Saturday Night Special" by Lynyrd Skynyrd playing. This is a GREAT song choice considering the blue-ish creature design for djinn.
π΅"Mr. Saturday night special
Got a barrel that's blue and cold
Ain't good for nothin
But put a man six feet in a hole."π΅

We open with a shot of Baby's shiny grill getting rained upon. Kripke wanted a director-proof episode for his first time up at bat. You can't go wrong with your opening shot be the Impala.

Here we are, masochism.
Ep: What Is And What Should Never Be
Writer: Raelle Tucker
Director: Kripke's first episode directing
DP: Serge.
The recap has Dean letting us know where his head's been at lately: Screw the job.

#Supernatural #WIAWSNB Why is it my job to save these people? Why do I have to be some kind of hero? What about us, huh? What, Mom's not supposed to live her life? Sammy's not supposed to get married? Why do we have to sacrifice everything? π #memories
Happy Friday! #JimmyPage #RobertPlant New Mexico 1995 Jimmy totally messes up the #WIAWSNB solo, laughs and nobody in the audience cares π!

I love the fact that this time around, it was Sam getting Dean into hunting while Dean was thinking more of normal and refused!!
Finally, A GREAT parallel to either the pilot or #WIAWSNB
#SPNSummer2019 #ItsATerribleLife
This time, Sam gets to save Dean. Sam: I thought I lost you! Dean: You almost did... #WIAWSNB #SPNSummer2019 Me: I love it when they save each other...
