Alaska Airlines said it is accelerating inspections of its 737 engines. Been doing inspections since 2016 and #WN3472. "We have been working aggressively to complete inspections sooner than recommended. As of today, we have engines on 25 aircraft left to inspect."

As a matter of background, after #WN3472 the FAA proposed an airworthiness directive to perform eddy current inspections on a certain population of CFM56-7B fan blades. Specifically on engines with 15,000 cycles or less since their last shop visit. #WN1380

#WN1380, like thousands of 737s produced since 1995, uses a @CFM_engines CFM56-7 engine. (CFM is a partnership between @SAFRAN's @SafranEngines and @generalelectric's @GEAviation.) This is a longstanding and reliable engine, though there are similarities with #WN3472 in 2016.

As you can see, the engine cowling is missing from #WN1380, much as it was from #WN3472 in August 2016. Engines are designed and tested so that, when they fail, the failure is "contained" (not "uncontained") within the engine structure. https://t.co/H63rerDBzU
