Horrific news in Alberta...the mass casualty incident was, in fact, a rapidly-spreading vegetation fire on base that overcame a large number of troops, killing 4, and injuring dozens.
No explosions, no gas infrastructure. Just a wind-driven wildfire. Will likely turn out that it was sparked by munitions, but the cause has not been announced. Very awful outcome.

Confirmed casualties: Four Canadian Armed Forces members killed; 39 CAF sustained injuries.
Alberta PM Danielle Smith announced 39 patients in hospital, at least 19 critical.
Brigade members conducted live-fire training at CFB Wainwright during Exercise Apollo Shooter.
A grass fire ignited in the training area. Uncommonly strong winds caused it to spread rapidly, shifting direction and overtaking the unit’s administrative/section attack area.
Range control had known of the fire for several hours.
An unusual wind shift drove the fire a kilometre in 30-60 seconds.
Cause remains under active investigation.
