Hajja Farida (Umm Hosni) from the town of Baqa al-Gharbiya passed away on Thursday. She was the mother of martyred prisoner #WalidDaqqa, and known as “Umm al-Asra” (mother of the prisoners) for her commitment to visiting Palestinian prisoners and her active role in the #PalestinianLiberationOrganization. Umm Hosni also constantly visited Lebanese prisoners when the occupation forcefully transferred them to the occupied territories, depriving them of contact with their families.
Umm Hosni passed away after a battle with Alzheimer's, having spent her final years in a wheelchair. She died after a 37-year wait to reunite with her son, who was martyred before his release. The occupation still holds his body to this day.
Walid had written of his relationship with his mother, saying: “My mother and I–two children who lost their return tickets in a train station and remain on the platform; stuck between a past that does not remember us and a tomorrow that my mother stares at on the ceiling of her room, just as I stare now at the ceiling of my cell.”
