Little People. Big Dreams.
We arrived bright and early this morning.
Doctors. Lawyers. Culinary artists. Creatives. Finance professionals. Organisational psychologists. Social workers. DJs. Nurses. Leaders. Marketers. Brand managers. Storytellers.
Different professions. Different journeys.
One purpose:
To walk with young dreamers.
To listen to their questions. To share something of our own journeys. To pay attention to what was said, and sometimes, what wasn’t.
There were little hands to hold. Small frames to hug.
And somewhere in all of it, many of us were transported back to when this was us, young dreamers, wondering what we would do with our lives.
I loved the honesty of two high-school students at my table.
“We don’t know what we want to be yet. We came for inspiration. Maybe something someone says here will trigger an idea.”
And we assured them: that’s okay.
Sometimes the dream is clear. Sometimes you are still looking for it. And even when you find it, dreams grow, change and refine themselves as we do.
What an honour to be invited by @galuifound, a community foundation rooted in Katwe, to be part of The Dream Walk.
There was something powerful about hosting the Dream Village right here in Katwe.
Because people may make assumptions about children growing up in low-income communities.
But these children have dreams. Hopes. Gifts. Questions. Aspirations.
Today, we did not come to give them dreams. The dreams were already there.
We simply came to walk alongside them for a little while, to listen, encourage and, maybe, make a possibility feel a little more possible.
To the young dreamers of Katwe, thank you for trusting us with your dreams and your questions.
May you keep dreaming.
May you encounter people who expand what you believe is possible.
And may the circumstances of today never determine the possibilities of tomorrow.
