Of course, aluminium vehicle bodies meant they didn’t really need painting at all, the original #RailBlue band was largely cosmetic and the #WarningYellow ends were mandatory back then :)

Yes, discussions about which livery best suited which class, whilst very interesting, are secondary to what was achieved by #RailBlue and the incidental safety addition of #WarningYellow all of which provided the superb continuity you are extolling...
@_doublearrow I agree, most certainly about presence, very bold, very functional with a superb continuity between classes. It did exactly what it was supposed to do, it is deeply & sadly missed, as is the joined up thinking behind it.
@rlonguk Interestingly (to me anyway) the first locomotive to be repainted in revised ('large logo') blue was 56036 as early as 1978; you will note the thin #WarningYellow strip between the black and grey on this livery prototype :)
