This was the second of the Crewe ZC batch, when custard was custard—even on the air horns!—and lead (probably Chrome Yellow) and phthalocyanine (Monastral Blue) were still constituents of #RailBlue; but whatever you do, don’t look too closely at those ‘Rail Alphabet’ numbers

I think BRUTEs probably were #RailBlue but standing on the ends of platforms in all weathers made them susceptible to fading; all of which is an excuse to post this image of Shrewsbury from May 1981, looking a bit like a model layout...
