In 1966, Gurindji man Vincent Lingiari led a strike. First Nations workers weren’t being paid, so they walked off Wave Hill station. The strike lasted 7 years. Beyond stolen wages, this was about fighting for Country that was stolen from them and sold to pastoralists in 1883.

This year's Vincent Lingiari Memorial Lecture will be delivered on #Gurindji Country by Thomas Mayor @tommayor11 & will pay homage to Vincent Lingiari & his incredible legacy.

But this is the story of something much more

Who know where they stand, and stand in the law” #VINCENTLINGIARI #WaveHillWalkOff #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe🖤💛❤️#FreedomDay✊🏾

In a famous act of #protest, the Gurindji people walked off Wave Hill Station to receive a fare wage and their land returned. This event is known as the #WaveHillWalkOff. It took 7 years of protesting, but the #WhitlamGovernment returned their land in 1975. Jamie
