As we head into graduation season I've noticed the "Be a Leader - Join the Army" yard signs cropping up along the roadsides. The military targets kids in poverty and there is absolutely NOTHING that is OK about that. #WeAreNotExpendable
So in California, many school districts have dropped/are about to drop the masking mandate. Several weeks before spring break. Collective disabled/#HighRiskCovid19 oracle already knows...this will result in Covid surge & more disabled students. #CripTheVote #WeAreNotExpendable

Many of my colleagues on here have eloquently explained their concerns with the new CDC guidelines, so I’ll just add that any guidelines that include “Talk with your provider.” when 25% of Americans don’t have a PCP and 10% are uninsured is inherently problematic.
So my state lifts the indoor mask mandate Monday. So I, an immunocompromised person, have 2 days to do errands until it's not safe again b/c "freedom". I count the days until my still-masked public school has the next surge & my risk goes up. #HighRiskCOVID19 #WeAreNotExpendable

I think many teachers are reacting to the decades-long, bipartisan consensus that their labor is expendable. And now, so too are their lives.
People who are vaccinated can still develop Long Covid. People who are immunocompromised can still die.
I want non-disabled folks to think about this. Someone in my family had an ER nurse quick-train them how to do a procedure on themselves to avoid multiple pandemic ER trips. She was worried about #COVID19 exposure of immunocompromised patients. #WeAreNotExpendable #CripTheVote

Surgery postponed.
Treatment deferred.
Death from #COVID19 is not the only bad outcome.
CA districts had option to renew Covid leave & some chose not to. Means if teachers must isolate or have a positive Covid-19 test result, they use up their sick leave; if more, pay drops 50%. No word on what immunocompromised teachers should do. #WeAreNotExpendable #CripTheVote
