San Pellegrino's version of the ancient chinotto drink, made from the eponymous citrus fruit is a bittersweet surprise for the palate. Complex, but delicious. A spicy thirst quencher for adults.
Well worth importing by sugar tax haters. 4/5

The tragedy is that before the sugar tax, British soft drinks used to be much better than their American equivalents because they used sugar cane (or beet), whilst the US used high fructose corn syrup.
Now people actually import drinks from the US!

Because itโs nice to get a can of pop with 39g of sugar in the US but itโs HFCS.
Taste is subjective and nutritional advice has been unreliable over the years.
I simply wish adults to be able to enjoy traditional sugar-based formulations of drinks that have been available for decades and centuries without state distortion of the market.

Jacob Schweppe mastered his process in 1783. Unfortunately Schweppes Lemonade was recently reformulated to avoid the UK sugar tax (โSoft Drinks Industry Levy"). It now contains disgusting aspartame and sodium saccharin.
Jacob would be fizzing in his grave.

Lucozade has indeed been ruined.
The original classic British energy drink created by pharmacist William Walker Hunter in Newcastle in 1927 is no longer available for sale in the UK. Only a version with sucralose and acesulfame, rather than glucose๐คฎ

The UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy (the "sugar tax") applies to drinks with > 5g sugar per 100ml. Higher rates for > 8g per 100ml. From April 2026 the rates are ยฃ2.08 per 10 L and ยฃ2.78 per 10 L respectively.
Even non-diet drinks now have ghastly sweeteners!

I am still puzzled as to why R. Whites - who have water then sugar as the main ingredients,
then the 3% lemon juice concentrate,
then Citric acid, regulator and "flavourings",
- put in tiny amounts of Aspartame + saccharine.

It is really unfortunate you cannot buy Pepsi Cola in Britain anymore. I sometimes preferred it to Coke.
