This week marks National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a time to raise awareness about available resources and recognize the incredible team of Victim Advocates here at #WestyPD.
The WPD Victim Services Unit supports victims of crime in accordance with Colorado’s Crime Victim Rights Act (VRA). The team includes one coordinator, seven staff advocates, 20 volunteer victim advocates, and two volunteer administrative members.
Last year, they supported more than 4,800 victims and individuals impacted by personal tragedy, and were called to the field 523 times to provide immediate, on-scene crisis intervention.
We are so grateful for this team and the impact they have on our community. Please join us in recognizing this amazing group! #nationalcrimevictimsrightsweek

We really have the BEST SROs and their dedication and love for the job really shows. Please join us in celebrating three amazing members of our team, each a reflection of the excellence and heart our entire #WestyPD SRO unit brings to the community.
SRO Supervisor of the Year – Sergeant Salazar
Recognized statewide for his leadership and unwavering commitment to school safety and community partnerships, Sergeant Salazar leads our exceptional SRO team with integrity and heart.
2025 NASRO Instructor of the Year - SRO Jacobsen
Officer Jacobsen's passion for education, mentorship and public safety continues to make a lasting impact not only here at home, but also across the country. She was honored as the 2025 Instructor of the Year by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
Gordon Beesley SRO of the Year - SRO Steele
Named in honor of a beloved fallen officer, the Gordon Beesley SRO of the Year Award recognizes outstanding excellence, compassion and service. SRO Steele embodies these qualities and serves as a true inspiration to students.
Congratulations & thank you for embodying the values of #WPD every day!
We love our K9s! If you haven’t seen them in action yet, don’t miss the Public Safety Open House at #WestyPD on June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Our K9s and their handlers are highly trained in narcotics detection, patrol work, and locating and detaining suspects. Check out some of their impressive 2024 stats below! #WestyPDAnnualReport2024
FAST FACTS: #WestyPD Traffic Unit
Led by a sergeant and 14 officers, our Traffic & Motor Units have been busy keeping roads safe — from school zones to street racing patrol and everything in between.
Some quick 2024 numbers:
- Total Number of Citations Issued by Traffic Unit: 5,532
- Total Traffic Related Accidents Handled by Traffic Unit: 1,632
- Percent of Traffic Calls for Service Handled by Traffic Unit: 73.35%
Fun Fact: In 2024, the Traffic Unit partnered with the North Metro Street Racing Task Force, Colorado State Patrol, and the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC) Task Force to conduct street racing enforcement. Due to these efforts, Westminster continues to avoid many of the large-scale street racing gathering locations, with most street racing encounters being considered as a ‘pass through’. These partnerships continue for 2025.
You'll find more information in the Annual Report being released soon! #WestyPDAnnualReport2024
