This bldg is totally off the wealth market. Each family pays $56,000 mortgage that they pay down over 40 years. Housing never appreciates money, it depreciates the longer you own the bldg. Vienna society is built around social equity, not wealth equity. #wheninwein

This building is a coop. Ppl respond to an ad in the paper and collectively take a loan from the state and divide payment. 50 adults own the bldg as a collective. They have a solidarity fund to include refugees in apts for free. They share the upkeep of the bldg. #wheninwein

Now touring a co-op building. Car free with lots of families. This is a mix of market, coop, & limited profit housing. The complex comes from a contest for best design instead of highest bidder. Open space has gardens, new school, hotels & cafe. #wheninwein 2 bdrm = $600 a month
Public housing is distributed in nearly every district of the city. This is a map of public housing built 1919-1934. Incomes are broadly mixed inside. buildings are integrated in all neighborhoods. They are also central, near transit robust transit. #wheninwein

Winters: offer indoor sleeping space for homeless, providing food. Doctor’s make visits to offer help on the spot (vs sending to get help). Eg: single dose vaccine for COVID was reserved for this population.

1) Emergency housing is within 1 day, 2) Ppl don’t mind waiting, willing to wait for housing in specific locations/project, 3) Project for special groups like single moms.
