It was great to meet Workday CEO @CarlEschenbach, many execs as well as customers. What stood out for me: The companies making progress aren't the loudest about AI. Capita launched a recruiting agent in five months, cutting candidate screening time by 43%. ING manages 1,000 change requests annually while rolling out solutions globally. These are operational metrics, not innovation theatre. The gap between experimentation and scaling remains defining. Nanda Burke from Siemens said it directly: "Experimenting with AI is easy, scaling it is not easy." Siemens employees have built thousands of agents, but her candor about needing robust tech infrastructure was refreshing. The European governance-first approach may prove advantageous. Burke's point about fundamentally rethinking organizations rather than just automating existing processes echoes the electricity transition in manufacturing. We're still replacing steam engines with electric motors while keeping the same factory layouts. What I'm taking away: enterprises that will succeed and thrive over the next 24 months aren't the ones with the most aggressive AI deployment timelines. They're the ones being honest about what scaling requires, investing in leadership culture that enables experimentation, building technical foundations that support production workloads, and fundamentally rethinking how work gets organized. Workday GO Expansion New Global Payroll capability, Partner Network, and AI-powered Deployment Agent cutting implementation time by up to 25%. Master Builders Solutions case study: kick-off to go-live in 42 working days. This is Workday's serious play for the midsize market (90% of companies, 70% of employment globally). 3. Organizations that solve for governance and compliance first, then layer in AI capability, may actually move faster than those trying to retrofit governance onto AI-first architectures.
