🇪🇸 In #Spain, public sector workers negotiate reduced working time amid legal and economic challenges.
◾️After the government introduced 37,5 hours minimum working week in 2012, unions took to the streets - from protests to negotiations, relentless efforts paid off, and by 2023, several regions had successfully reintroduced the 35-hour week through negotiations - more regions following.
🇵🇹 #Portugal's public sector faces challenges but sees rapid progress in restoring the 35-hour week.
◾️In 2013, legislation increased normal working hours for public sector workers from 35 to 40 hours per week. The unions fought back and the new legislation reinstated the 35-hour working week in the public sector in 2016, marking a monumental victory for labour rights in the country.
