like all of you, i've been surprised by the @Ta_da_io launchpad at #xDays and i didn't know what to think.
but, after DYORing this past months, i can say there might be something good there.
CONTEXT
we were all blown away by the AI rise in '23. some amazing tools have been built and everyone was pretty happy.
well, almost everyone. artists & creators not so much because AI companies have been scraping the internet to create training data. paintings, recordings, articles, everything has been put into AIs.
digital artists were the first that took a stand against having their work used, for free, by the big tech. others have followed since and it became very clear that not all training content is really fair use.
👇 just recently, as the article attached reads, NYT has sued Microsoft & OpenAI.
this might lead to a settlement (NYT gets a big fat check to stfu) which in turn could lead to more lawsuits.
🇺🇸 while the US GOV will be powerless (like always) to do something about it, the EU might take actions (GDPR came from EU, USB-C came from EU, winning antitrust cases - EU, and so on).
🇪🇺 in about 1-2 years EU could take a stand against AI companies that use data w/o consent. for example, last year, Italy banned #ChatGPT for a while because they didn't respect certain laws meant to protect the users.
SO WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH @Ta_da_io?
well, everything. it looks like an emerging market around data training is popping off.
they are at the right time and in the right place.
🔹 big companies will be willing to pay for training data because it should be cheaper than paying an EU fine (google was recently fined $2.4 BILLION)
🔹 smaller companies usually try to avoid any legal problems and just get data the right way.
the challenge for Ta-Da will be to make sure they can adapt fast and provide reliable & diverse data.
they are starting out with voice & image recognition tasks through a gamified & rewarding experience. i like the design of that system and i see the overall potential.
at the same time, it's very important to nurture the community of workers. it's a good system to start with and i hope they see the other initiatives through which they can expand.
that being said, i think Ta-Da is a good product for @xLaunchpadApp. MvX users have the possibility to be part of this emerging market.
my thoughts are based on the roadmap/strategy that, hopefully, they can deliver.
