As we pray for Pope Leo XIV and his older brother, Louis Prevost, who are both facing cancer, let us turn to the powerful intercession of St. Peregrine, the patron saint of cancer patients. On October 13, the Vatican confirmed that Pope Leo XIV was diagnosed with lung cancer following surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung. The operation was successful. Meanwhile, the Holy Father's older brother, Louis Prevost, is undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. His wife revealed that he was first diagnosed in 2017 and that the disease returned after a period of remission. As this family faces such a difficult trial, let us unite in prayer for them and for every person suffering from cancer. ST. PEREGRINE — PATRON SAINT OF CANCER PATIENTS 🙏✝️ St. Peregrine is known around the world as the patron saint of cancer patients. His patronage comes from an extraordinary miracle in his own life. He developed a serious disease in his leg, traditionally believed to have been cancer. His condition became so severe that doctors planned to amputate it. The night before the surgery, Peregrine prayed before a crucifix, placing his suffering completely in God's hands. According to tradition, while he prayed, Jesus reached down from the Cross and touched his diseased leg. When Peregrine awoke, his leg was completely healed. The amputation was no longer necessary. Because of this remarkable healing, countless people battling cancer, along with their families and caregivers, have turned to St. Peregrine for his prayers. Some wear his medal or pray devotions asking for his intercession, trusting that through the prayers of the saints, God continues to pour out His grace and mercy. ✝️ PRAYER TO ST. PEREGRINE, PATRON OF CANCER PATIENTS O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you. For many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fiber of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favored with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you. (State your intention here.) Aided by your powerful intercession, we shall sing with Mary a hymn of gratitude to God for His great goodness and mercy. Amen. St. Peregrine, pray for Pope Leo XIV, his brother Louis, and all those battling cancer. 🙏 💬 Is there someone in your life battling cancer whom we can lift up in prayer today? 🙏 Share this prayer so it can reach more people who are battling cancer.
