Within months, his family and associated real estate entities accumulated 137 plots spanning 168 acres across Ujjain a city about to undergo massive transformation.
The coincidence is almost too perfect: 111 of those 168 acres sit directly along roads announced by the CM himself.These aren't random purchases. They're chess moves on a board where the player controls both the game and the rules.
Ujjain 2028 is being reimagined highways, townships, riverfront projects, medical city, IT parks. Each announcement is a value multiplier. Land bought today at X becomes worth 10X once infrastructure materializes. The CM's family didn't predict the future; they shaped it.
The silence is the loudest statement.Indian Express asked for explanations. None came. In democracies, accountability demands answers. Evasion demands suspicion.
This isn't isolated graft it's systemic alchemy converting public office into private wealth through the apparatus of development projects. The religion becomes the justification; the real estate becomes the game.
When those who make policy are the ones profiting from it, everyone else is just playing on a tilted board.

Anjana ( @Tinyhunterme ) : Most of the governors have turned into BJP agents. They are working to create problems for the Opposition ruled states. From Mohammed Arif Khan to TN Ravi to Koshiyari, the worst governors we had. They were working as a proxy for Modi in those states.
Israrul Haque (@IH_24x7 ): The institution of Governor is a colonial relic. During British era also Governors were working for the Central British authority.
Either the post of Governor should be abolished, or same electoral mechanism should be implemented like that of President. That way people and representatives of State can choose their own Governor.

The invigilator will behave like we are there to take away something from them. But the paper valuation will take place like a lottery draw. If they are in a good mood, you will get marks if not you might even fail.
The reevaluation process is basically extortion. There are hundreds of ways you can get punished if you get caught for exam copying, but no punishment for these teachers who fail to evaluate our paper incorrectly. And the sad part is that we have left these crimes saying "it's all about luck"

Ashutosh Singh writes: I kind of disagree with this article, or with any idea that tries to lump all young people together, call them "youth," and assume that they behave in a homogeneous way.
For instance, an 18-year-old Dalit who is killed for studying in a library is also a youth. He is also Gen Z, but he does not fit into our popular definition of Gen Z. A 19-year-old backward-caste boy who is thrashed by the police because he stood up against the loot of reservations meant for OBCs is also a youth and a member of Gen Z.
If you count the number of such Gen Z individuals, they would form nearly 85% of the youth population. Yet, somehow, when we think of "youth" or "Gen Z," we imagine a very particular kind of person. If you conduct a sociological analysis of this kind of GenZ, it will throw up the same profile: upper caste, middle class, with access to cultural and social capital.
My opinion is that Mr. Tharoor is referring to this version of Gen Z because that is the language and social world he understands.
It is a very narrow section of Gen Z whose parents have been deeply marinated in a conservative ideology that is now largely owned by the RSS. The RSS, in turn, is nurturing the AAP which has created CJP.
The Gen Z that appeared in the "Cockroach Movement" is, by nature, a small section of well-fed youth whose lives are largely set. They just want some fun, so they put on the facade of revolution.
But this revolution has to be clean, sanitized, social-media-friendly, and cold-coffee-laced.
Mr. Tharoor is asking this Gen Z to join politics. Come on, that's not possible. And even if they do fight, they will fight for values that may not necessarily be inclusive.
The other Gen Z that I referred to earlier is already fighting. It is fighting over the 69,000 reservations issue in Uttar Pradesh. It is fighting in Rajasthan.
It is busy toiling as labourers, delivery workers, and daily-wage earners. It is fighting social and cultural taboos that make day-to-day life difficult.
Gen Z comes in many forms, just like society itself: communal, casteist, secular, Dalit, OBC, Muslim, Savarna, and so on. They cannot simply cross these fault lines because those fault lines are deeply embedded in society.
Therefore, we need to understand youth in its full complexity. Merely projecting our own view of youth as the view of all youth is misleading and can lead to incorrect conclusions.

Priyam Mishra writes: I agree with the central message of the article that democracy requires participation. Change rarely comes from disengagement alone. Citizens must vote, organise, question authority, use RTI, approach courts when necessary, and engage with public institutions.
However, I believe the growing disengagement of many young Indians from politics is not the cause of the problem—it is often the consequence of deeper problems.
For years, young people have been told that education, hard work, and participation in democratic processes would create opportunities. Yet many have witnessed repeated paper leaks, delayed recruitments, vacant government posts, rising unemployment, increasing costs of living, slow justice, and a lack of accountability for failures. When these experiences repeat year after year, frustration gradually turns into distrust.
The issue is not that today's youth are apolitical. In fact, they are highly aware, informed, and politically conscious. What many are losing faith in is the belief that institutions will respond fairly and effectively to their concerns.
Another factor is fear. Many young people feel that speaking out, protesting, or challenging powerful institutions can bring legal, social, or professional consequences. Whether this perception is fully accurate or not, it influences behaviour. As a result, many choose to express their frustration online rather than through traditional political participation.
This is why disengagement has grown. It did not happen overnight. It developed over years through repeated experiences where effort appeared disconnected from outcomes and participation seemed disconnected from accountability.
The answer, therefore, is not to tell young people simply to participate more. Nor is it to abandon democratic institutions altogether.
The real challenge is to rebuild trust.
Citizens must continue to participate, but institutions must also become more transparent, accountable, responsive, and willing to accept responsibility for failure. Democracy works best when participation and accountability move together.
Young people should not give up on democracy. But democracy must also give young people reasons to believe that their voice, effort, and participation genuinely matter.
