Although one thing I did do was get ahold of the grapple rules. Compared to AD&D, 5E grappling is quite underwhelming!

All you need are secondary tables and imagination informed by an appendix N (trad or one of your own making).
For there your in the same spot as the players. Riding by the seat of your pants.

#ZeroPrep is not a concept I invented to be edgy and theorycraft against the annoying dweebs of the #osr (though they deserve it); it was my findings for best practices to run real #dnd in the #brosr style way which emphasized player autonomy.
As you dm more u prep less!
I discovered how much I didn't know about AD&D as I tried to run a wargame with my friends using AD&D rules. It didn't go well.
