@scottlemaire @AnneMStey @AcademicSurgery Good question. I look at turnaround time/timeliness. I look to see if the surgeon said yes or no, and if they said yes, if they followed through. And most important, I look at the quality (and helpfulness!) of the review. #AASChat

@AcademicSurgery A5a: The first step for joining an EB is being a frequent & effective reviewer for the journal, providing detailed critiques that are helpful to authors & submitting reviews on time. This will get you noticed by the editorial leadership. #AASChat

@AcademicSurgery A5: While responsibilities vary btwn journals, in general EB members provide guidance to editors on new initiatives, help steer a journal’s direction, offer perspective on evolving issues (AI, open access, etc.), and serve as go-to reviewers for their area of expertise. #AASChat
