What is an agent?
The most common question and probably the least agreed upon term is 'agent'
So I made a simple diagram explaining what we think of as an agent
Essentially its a combination of a tool (function call)
Plus some sort of “looping” mechanism that takes feedback from its environment (i.e api call response)
There are a lot more varieties (planning, multi-agent), but in reality, it's just an LLM that can recursively call a function & make a decisions until it arrives at a solution
You don't need a crazy framework to get started with the basics. If anything, they make it harder to learn the ins and outs of them (plus their weaknesses)

It's called "Ferret-UI", a multimodal vision-language model that understands icons, widgets, and text on iOS mobile screen, and reasons about their spatial relationships and functional meanings.
Example questions you can ask Ferret-UI:
- Provide a summary of this screenshot;
- For the interactive element [bbox], provide a phrase that best describes its functionality;
- Predict whether the UI element [bbox] is tappable.
With strong screen understanding, it's not hard to add action output to the model and make it a full-fledged on-device assistant.
The paper even talks about details of the dataset and iOS UI benchmark construction. Extraordinary openness from Apple! They are truly redefining their AI research branch.
