Here are a few messages (from Public Record Act requests) re:#AlphaProjectSD
They show the frustration of staff, concerns re:lack of lighting for employee safety, and struggles w/defective showers for people w/disabilities

Re the new #SanDiego #hepatitisA outbreak:
#AlphaProjectSD shelters are NOT attached to the city's water/wastewater systems
They've struggled w/lack of potable water, sewage leaks & broken showers
This makes it more likely for #HepA to spread in congregate shelter environment

Re #hepatitisA outbreaks:
The #AlphaProjectSD tent shelters are NOT hooked up to the city's water/wastewater systems.
They've struggled w/lack of potable water, sewage leaks, broken showers etc.
All this makes it more likely for #HepA to spread in congregate shelter environment
In terms of encampment safety & sanitation: Even the #AlphaProjectSD tent next to Switzer Creek has a history of flooding & shower/sewage overflows
These "temporary" facilities have been set up without proper drainage or plumbing

@davidpeery @SANDAG @SDCaltrans @SDRPorg @san @CityofSanDiego @CityDelMar @switzercreek Is that the #AlphaProjectSD tent next to it, that flooded a few years ago?
#Wetlands gonna wet land- and shelters.
Good thing @SDCityCouncil passed a "Love Your Wetlands" resolution last week...
#Homeless-serving nonprofits nudge clients to get on their feet without subsidies β¦
Quarlo βQβ McSwain, case manager supervisor for #AlphaProjectSD said heβs had many such conversations

So do this #RyanClumpner:
- Stay a few nights an #AlphaProjectSD shelter
- Deliver supplies to unsheltered people
- Attend a vigil for those who are dying from lack of care
And don't forget to tell @CAgovernor how you're spending your public funds
7/
How about this:
Let's invite #SanDiego #Housing Commission Boardmembers @MayorToddGloria @CMWhitburnD3 & @CMJenCampbell to stay in a tent shelter
- Review how much is paid to #AlphaProjectSD
- Consider if they would send someone they care about to stay in one of these tents
5/
FYI #RyanClumpner- Unsheltered people talk openly w/advocates about avoiding #AlphaProjectSD congregate shelters for #Health & #safety reasons:
Risks have included
- Flooding
- #COVID #Tuberculosis
- Assault/harassment
- Unlit areas, violence & risk of losing personal property

Last year I submitted a #PublicRecord request re:#AlphaProjectSD contracts w/#CityofSanDiego
The request is still open
-1000s of documents have been shared, many showing problems:
Millions in public $$ received
People exposed to dirty water & illnesses: #COVID & #tuberculosis
3/
How much did #CityofSanDiego pay for #AlphaProjectSD shelters that #HousingCommission show have a 78% failure rate, and how long do people stay?
- $1.8 million over past year (at least)
- 1373 households
- Avg. stay: 57 days
- Avg. stay for actual permanent #housing: 109 days

This lack of #ADA compliant facilities is true in #AlphaProjectSD and other shelters as well.
Lack of bottom bunks prevents many older adults w/#disabilities from using shelters:
- Using a top bunk creates a #health & #Safety risk

#AlphaProjectSD gets millions in taxpayer $$ to provide #homelessness shelter & services- yet has failed to provide clean restrooms & or safe drinking water
Despite record rainfall: they don't provide more inclement weather shelters
TIME TO #AuditAlphaProject #CityofSanDiego

Remember when @sullivanms provided hot drinks to people kicked out of #SanDiego inclement weather shelters at 5AM?
FYI: #AlphaProjectSD does "not aim at making #homelessness easier, or less costly, or more tolerable"
Alpha staff does this to make lives even harder for #PEH

@davidpeery @jamesstout It's in their Mission Statement: #AlphaProjectSD does "not aim at making #homelessness easier, or less costly, or more tolerable"
They actively make people's lives harder, more expensive &intolerable:
No humane inclement weather facilities
Kick people out without any food/drink
@GudTroubl2 @objkshn @crowder I think you're confusing her with #AlphaProjectSD President Bob McElroy- he's driving a Maserati and making at least $245K/year of taxpayer money, operating shelters in #SanDiego that don't provide #housing for 75% of people who go into them
$1,160,000
- Annual salaries of #AlphaProjectSD executives to operate "temporary" shelters
25%
- Chance a person in #SanDiego who enters a shelter & receives a #housing voucher finds & moves into permanent housing within 120 days
Do an #Audit
