A statutory inquiry opens next week into Valdo Calocane, who killed three people and seriously injured three others in an attack in Nottingham in June 2023.
Channel 4 News can reveal the Nottingham case is not isolated. In the year before the attacks, there were 23 similar incidents across the UK involving severely mentally ill people attacking strangers, and a similar number since.

I’ve watched the decimation of #AssertiveOutreach across the country during my career & anyone who’s honest will admit this patient group has been badly let down
I’m told we don’t need it by people who’ve never worked in it and don’t see these patients
