My kids are young adults who have dealt with chronic rare & complex health their entire life.
It’s brutal, it’s exhausting, it’s soul crushing.
Never once have they been #homicidal in response to the brutality of the system.

So I gotta tell this story. Happened today.
I’d been in Atrial Fibrillation for 3 days (again) and imagine your heart at 130-150bpm nonstop for all that time. Doesn’t hurt just not fun.
I’m on the procedure bed and I’m breathing Sevofluorane while they're starting to give me Propofol and a hospital employee I’d not encountered before interrupted everyone to lean over me and say “your insurance company hasn’t preapproved this and the charge is Ten Thousand Dollars”.
I kid you not. At that point I didn’t care and said ‘they can bill me’ and got my cardioversion. I’m fine, BTW, thanks.
I’m going to think about this for a while.
(FTR everyone else I interacted with was beyond terrific and it was smooth as silk).
At ER with a POTS flare - heart rate is 180 at triage.
Nurse: “Are you fighting with your boyfriend sweetie?”
Me (somewhat indignant) “I don’t have a boyfriend. I have POTS”
Doctor: “Single? At your age? How come? You don’t want to be married?”

Just because I’m not in a physical prison, there’s 1000s of defendants like me out here in limbo too. From what I know now, I’d take a wild guess that many are also innocent. 6yrs in, I can vouch no one cares about defendants or their rights. We have no rights.
