#Rituximab can rapidly clear peripheral #CD19+ B cells in most #lupus #nephritis (LN) patients, however, its limited efficacy may be attributed to an increase in serum #BAFF/#BLyS levels, which facilitates the reemergence of autoreactive B cells during the B-cell repopulation process and results in disease relapse over time. The combination use of rituximab with #belimumab or #telitacicept is able to antagonize the effects of BAFF (telitacicept can also inhibit APRIL), thereby delaying the reactivation of B cells, and may be effective in inducing remission in refractory LN, with tolerable adverse effects.
