After JP Morgan declared that it would include India in its ‘Emerging Markets #BondIndex’ from June 2024, analysts estimate that India’s inclusion will attract about $25 bn of #ForeignInvestments into the Indian markets, as happened in the case of China years back.
Moreover, the inclusion in such a prestigious index will increase India’s credibility internationally, thus enabling Indian borrowers to borrow at #LowerInterestRates, leading to a lesser outflow of #ForeignExchange for interest payments.
Overall, it will boost liquidity as well as strengthen the position of the #IndianRupee.
Moreover, the inclusion, though delayed, has happened at India’s terms even after the Govt did not budge on issues like taxation, etc., which underlines the importance of India in the #InternationalEconomy.
JP Morgan’s decision could pave the way for other indices like @FTSERussell, Bloomberg-Barclays, etc., to include India in their indices, boosting India’s international economic standing.
